Going "Behind-the-Scenes" with IHL in the Bay's Youth Action Campaign

Whether you have attended some of our events, see some of our Instagram posts, or are simply just curious, you may be wondering what our team does “behind the scenes” to run our campaign!

Event Planning:

As you may know, each month, we host events related to our campaign. In order to prepare for these events, we do various activities such as brainstorming event ideas, planning event logistics, allocating work, and marketing. We mostly spend the first week of each month coming up with event details, while delegating the second and third weeks executing and promoting our event.

Instagram Posts:

Our Instagram account, @ihlinthebay, has two bi-weekly series called World News Wednesday and Throwback Thursday. During our weekly meetings, we assign each team member to a post. We use Trello to keep track of our progress and set deadlines, Canva to create these posts, and Slack to communicate with each other.

Weekly Meetings:

As mentioned previously, our team holds weekly meetings. In these meetings, we discuss our upcoming events, as well as reflect on our previous events using data from our post-activity surveys. We also use this time to collaborate on event-related materials (ie. slide decks, marketing posts, etc). I definitely think it’s a lot of work, but these meetings are super fun -- in fact, we often end up going over-time during some meetings just talking to each other about random things like homework or extracurriculars!

Personal Life:

Speaking of high school, one of the challenges we face as a team is balancing IHL work with school and other activities. All of us are high schoolers, and I’ve definitely had my fair share of experiences where work relating to IHL has clashed with my school work. Fortunately, our team leads are very understanding of our situation. In order to prevent this clash, all of us tend to set weekly times aside for our campaign, in order to continue to meet our deadlines.

That’s it for this post! I hope you enjoyed reading it, and we’ll see you next week!
