What Goes Into Our Events?

Hello! Welcome or welcome back to IHL in the Bay blogs. As our campaign continues, I would like to let you in on the work that goes into planning and hosting our events, whether they are online, asynchronous, or in person.

Throughout the IHL YAC Campaign, we try to host one event every month to inform and educate people in the principles of IHL/nuclear weapons. But how much planning goes into these events? What do we do to prepare? In the beginning of every month during our weekly meeting we collaborate as a team to come up with creative ideas for new events. In these beginning phases we try to come up with as many ideas that come to mind and pick or combine our favorites. After we finalize our decisions on events we split up the work and bring our plans to life. Usually we work in groups of 2 to 3 to make sure no one is overloaded with work (considering we are all busy high school students) and wait til our next meeting for more instructions. Throughout this process we are also actively marketing, we contact as many friends as possible to ensure that we can run an amazing event. Not only do these people get volunteer hours but they also gain knowledge about IHL and get to participate in our fun activities. Once the event date comes around, we all work extra hard to make sure that everything runs smoothly. We meet before the event to rehearsals and go through everything so everyone knows their part. And as every new month comes around we start the planning all over again for another fantastic and fun event.

In this year's campaign, we’ve hosted online events that correlated with the movie Oppenheimer (the Barbie Movie was better), an asynchronous event connecting nuclear weapons to popular movies, and we’ve met with various school clubs to host fun activities. We hope to see you at one of our events and now you know all the hard work and effort the IHL team puts into the events we host. That’s all for today's blog, thank you for reading!
